Continuous Learning for Cattle Producers

About Jennifer Hill

Jennifer Hill ranches with her husband Logan in Nebraska. Their family recently relocated their ranch from Colorado to Nebraska to create the operation they want for themselves and future generations. Jen was formerly a teacher but now is on the ranch full-time with Logan. She believes in the power and purpose of continuous learning for people in all industries and is a loyal member of the RancherMind program.

The Importance of Continuous Learning

Jen says it is important for us to continue learning because the beef industry is always changing. It is easy for us to do things a certain way, because that is how our dads and grandpas did it. But, that doesn’t make it the best option. Taking the time to discover all options available for different management practices will save you time and money in the long run.

What are RancherMind Events?

RancherMind events are producer-driven conversations that allow cattle producers to connect with industry experts and peer ranchers without having to leave their operations. Attendees have the opportunity to ask experts any questions they have about the topic for the month and gain access to a private community of attendees who support and push each other to make improvements on their operations.

Jennifer’s Experience

Jennifer appreciates how relaxed the calls are. You can come as you are or catch the recording if you can’t attend live. It’s an environment that is welcoming. The RancherMind program has allowed Jennifer and Logan to take a step back and look at what opportunities they are missing in certain areas of cattle production and what areas they have a good grip on. The different RancherMind programs have allowed the Hill family to develop a new strategy for selling cull cows and discover how they can create a successful backgrounding segment on their ranch. Jen mentions that it is easy to go about ranching like it is muscle memory year in and year out, but this can lead to missed opportunities that hurt your pocketbook at some point.

And there's just so much that can come out of each call that makes me feel like, there are changes we can make within our operation that are going to be beneficial. I feel excited after each one, because of the ideas that are being shared. And then the willingness of all of your experts to give out their information and say, “Hey, if you're stuck on something, or if you have a question about this later when you're thinking about it, give me a call.” You can't pay for that kind of information. You know, that's amazing, to be able to reach out to those people.
